This article explains how to use CloudAnywhere to provision Office 365 from the Google Apps directory.
Note: If you have an internal Active Directory or LDAP directory, CloudAnywhere can also do the provisioning by connecting to your LDAP directory rather than Google (this is, by the way, the heart of the business of CloudAnywhere to synchronize directories).
Before migrating your content, you need to recreate your users in Office 365, retrieve their properties (email addresses, aliases, telephone numbers, addresses, etc.), retrieve the shared contacts and the distribution groups and recreate them in Office 365.
These tasks can be a pain if you have to do it manually. Fortunately, CloudAnywhere will do it for you within a few minutes.
* CloudAnywhere is the On Premises IAM (Identity and Access Management) solution developped by Cloudiway : See CloudAnywhere homepage
If you need to do a simple one shot provisioning from Google Apps to Office 365, please contact Cloudiway, we can give you access to a VM hosted on Windows Azure with CloudAnywere already installed on it. This will allow you to start the provisioning within a few minutes.
Provisioning with CloudAnywhere
The provisioning will be performed in four steps
1. Connect to Google
=> Create a Google connector as a source connector.
Click Add, create the source Connector and Click Edit.
2. Connect to Office 365.
=> Create an Office 365 connector as target
Click Add, create the target Connector and Click Edit.
Configure the connector as shown in this picture.
CloudAnywhere has the ability to automatically assign licences (write down your licence SKU: if you don’t know it, click on the Licenses Management button). CloudAnywhere will connect to Office 365 (this also tests the connection) and retrieve the list of available SKUs.
3. Create the provisioning rules
Click on the provisioning tab and click on new.
For a simple provisioning, you can leave the default options by default. (It’s not relevant to explain of the options here; for further information, please check the CloudAnywhere documentation or contact Cloudiway).
You’re now ready to do the provisioning.
Click on the Pull button to pull Google.
Repeat the operation with Office 365: Pull Office 365.
Office 365 Pulling
Now, click on Reconcile.
Click on simulate, review the changes, then click on Commit.
That’s it. Your users are now provisioned in Office 365, with all attributes retrieved (included mail aliases).
Contacts and distribution lists have also been migrated.
Last but not least, the Office 365 licences have also been assigned.
The full process for about 10,000 users takes less than one hour.
