Problem

In your migration log for your Google Groups migration, you see the message: “Fatal error during migration process: Failed to Initialize Members for ‘[GroupName]’ : The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.”

Cause

The migration user you added to your source connector is not a manager or owner of the migrated group, or not even a member.

Resolution

Add your migration user as a member of the migrated group with the role of Manager (minimum required) or Owner.

  1. Login to Google Groups with owner or manager access to the Google Group relating to the error message, then click on Manage.
  2. If the migration user doesn’t exist in the list of members, click on Direct add members and fill in the details for the migration user.
  3. After adding the user, click on All members on the left, then click on the migration user in the member list.
  4. Change the role to Manager or Owner and save your changes. Remember, you will only be able to save these changes if your login already has enough access to do so.
    Change Google Group Role
  5. Restart your migration
